Sanakissa Terms of Service

Last updated: 16 May 2025

Sanakissa Edu Tech ("Sanakissa", "we", "us", or "our") provides a digital Finnish learning platform, mobile applications, and connected teacher messaging services (collectively, the "Service"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a legally binding agreement between you and Sanakissa. By creating an account, purchasing a subscription, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and to our

1. Who We Are & Merchant of Record

Sanakissa Edu Tech is registered in Finland with its principal office at Rubiinikehä 4 B 110, 01700 Vantaa, Finland. FastSpring (70 Wilson Street, London, EC2A 2DB, United Kingdom) acts as the Merchant of Record for all card and wallet payments. FastSpring issues invoices, collects taxes, and is your contractual counterparty for payment-related questions, including VAT invoicing for EU consumers.

2. Eligibility & Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum digital consent age in your country) to create an account. Users younger than the applicable age must have verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian. You are responsible for maintaining accurate account information, safeguarding your login credentials, and notifying us without delay if you suspect unauthorised use.

3. Service Description

Sanakissa offers personalised vocabulary generation, spaced-repetition memory tools, pronunciation and writing feedback, and other self-study features. The Service evolves over time; we may add, change, or withdraw features while providing reasonable notice of any material changes that adversely impact you.

4. YouTube Content Usage

The Feed section includes embedded YouTube videos that are freely accessible to all users, regardless of subscription status:

  • Free Access: All YouTube video content embedded in the Feed section is freely accessible to all users (both free and paid accounts) without any payment requirement.
  • Authentication Purpose: User registration via Auth0 is required for age verification and platform security, not to restrict access to YouTube content.
  • Subscription Scope: Premium subscriptions provide access to Sanakissa's proprietary learning tools including My 9 Vocabulary System, Memory (Spaced Repetition System), Training Tools, Academy (1000+ songs, 1000+ passages, interactive tools), and Diary & Curriculum. YouTube content is not included in, and does not form the basis of, our subscription offering.
  • YouTube Terms: By using embedded YouTube content, users agree to be bound by YouTube's Terms of Service at https://www.youtube.com/t/terms.

5. Subscription Plans & Pricing

After a free 48-hour trial, continued access requires a paid subscription:

  • Sanakissa Monthly: $9.99 billed every month.
  • Founding Member: $59.99 billed annually (limited to first 10,000 users; price locked for life).

FastSpring processes subscription payments in your local currency when available and applies the applicable VAT/GST or sales tax. Prices shown exclude VAT/GST, which will be added at checkout where legally required. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the end of the billing term. You can manage or cancel your plan at any time through the customer portal link in your FastSpring receipt or in the Sanakissa account settings. Cancelling stops future renewals and keeps access until the current paid period ends.

6. EU & UK Consumer Rights

EU and UK consumers purchasing digital services online benefit from a 14-day right of withdrawal, subject to consent for immediate fulfilment. When you start using premium features during the withdrawal period, you acknowledge that the service is delivered instantly and that the withdrawal right may be proportionally reduced or waived once content has been provided. Details on how to make a withdrawal request or claim a refund are set out in our

7. Acceptable Use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to reverse engineer our software, sharing offensive or unlawful content, interfering with platform security, or using automated tools to scrape data. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or the law.

8. Intellectual Property & User Content

Sanakissa retains all rights in the Service, trademarks, and underlying technology. You receive a limited, non-transferable licence to use the Service for personal study. You keep ownership of the text, audio, and other materials you input. By uploading content you grant Sanakissa a worldwide, royalty-free licence to process it for providing, improving, securing, and supporting the Service. We may create aggregated, anonymised insights derived from user activity, which we own.

9. Voice & Biometric Data

Pronunciation and teacher-messaging features may require temporary storage of your audio recordings. We request explicit consent before processing such data, use it only for feedback, tutoring, and fraud prevention, and delete or anonymise it in accordance with our retention schedule described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Data Protection

We process personal data as a controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable laws. Please review our Privacy Policy for information about the categories of data collected, legal bases, international transfers, data retention, and your rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, object, or portability.

11. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates third-party providers including FastSpring (billing), Supabase (infrastructure), Stream (communications), and analytics or anti-fraud tooling. Their terms may apply when you interact with those services. We are not liable for third-party acts or omissions.

12. Suspension & Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, fail to pay fees, or if required by law. You may stop using the Service at any time via account settings or by contacting sanakissa@sanakissa.fi. Upon termination we will deactivate your access and follow the data retention periods described in the Privacy Policy.

13. Disclaimers & Liability

The Service is provided "as is". We do not guarantee that use of Sanakissa will produce specific exam results or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sanakissa, its directors, employees, and suppliers are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. Our total liability arising from the Service is limited to the higher of EUR 100 or the fees paid by you to Sanakissa in the 12 months before the claim.

14. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Finland, without regard to conflict of law rules. Mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence still apply. Any dispute shall first be addressed through amicable negotiations. If unresolved, disputes may be brought before the District Court of Helsinki, Finland. EU consumers may also use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).

15. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect legal, technical, or business developments. We will give you at least 14 days' notice of material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, you must cancel your subscription before the changes take effect.
